And among His signs is this: that He created for you mates from among yourselves so that you may dwell in tranquility with them. He has put love and mercy between your hearts; in that are signs for those who reflect ( The Noble Quran 30:21) ….either remain together on equitable terms, or separate with kindness… (2:229) ….live with them on a footing of kindness and equity… (4:19)
In accordance with the Islamic commandments of peace and justice in the family and recognizing our community responsibility as directed by the Quran, MSS focuses on bringing programs to the community that enhance their understanding about Domestic Violence as well as provides support to individuals and spouses that are victims of Domestic Violence.
Our aim is to prevent oppression and injustice in the family and to be proactive in our awareness campaign.
MSS has held an ongoing series of workshops on Safer Families. We have organized workshops around issues of parenting, legal and social issues.
The last workshop was a two part training program for Imams and community leaders.
The next workshop in the Fall of 2009 will focus on the Islamic perspective on Domestic Violence.
These workshops focus on understanding the key issues around abuse and how to get help. Working in close partnership with local Domestic Violence police branch as well as other mainstream counselling agencies, MSS is able to help support Muslim families and children that are experiencing any form of abuse by referring them to the right place for help and providing them culturally and religiously sensitive support throughout this difficult time.
MSS also provides community organizations— such as counselling agencies, the police and advocates with tools and knowledge they need to understand their Muslim clients and accommodate their religious and cultural issues related to abuse of any form.
